For more than 100 years, Help Musicians has been a cornerstone of support for professional musicians across the UK, helping them build sustainable careers through a wide range of tailored services. From financial assistance to mental health and career development support, the charity plays a vital role in ensuring musicians are equipped to navigate the challenges of the ever-evolving music industry. This session will explore how Help Musicians continues to be an essential resource for artists at every stage of their journey, offering practical and emotional support when it's needed most.

Join us for an intimate conversation with two iconic figures of the Scottish music scene, Bobby Bluebell and Clare Grogan, sit down with arts writer and broadcaster Nicola Meighan (BBC Scotland). 

As a photographer working outside stage studio settings, in order to get this one iconic shot, you need to be a) in the right place at the right time, b) have to know your trusted tools of choice, and c) should be incredibly skilled in terms of your profession and getting along withi people and all the actributes are embodied to perfection in the work of London-based photographer Peter Anderson.

Regardless what kind of music your’re into, immortalized on a roll of black and white film by Anderson. He started to work at NME shortly after he moved from Glasgow to London in the late 1970’s, and later in his career delivered the goods for record labels (big and small) and publications such as Rolling Stone, The Face or I-D.

This discussion will focus on the importance of community and open communication in reshaping Scotland's music landscape for greater inclusion. Sanjeev will explore how fostering dialogue, collaboration, and collective action can break down barriers and create lasting change within the industry. By sharing his insights and experiences, Sanjeev wil highlight ways to make the music scene more open and supportive for all. There will be a documentary screening and a Q&A session, offering further exploration of how we can build a more inclusive and accessible future for Scotland’s music community.

Tamara Schlesinger (founder of Hen Hoose), Carla J. Easton (artist) and Lou Rowland (artist – Mokulsa) will join together for an insightful conversation on gender inequality in the music industry, the power of creative collaboration, and the critical role mentorship plays in supporting women and non-binary artists.

Music Support, the charity that helps those who work in the music industry affected by mental ill-health and/or addiction, invites you to join us for a special discussion surrounding addiction and recovery. The discussion will include their experiences with addiction and recovery in the industry, how we can support those living with it and what we can do to challenge stigmas attached to it.

Join Rachel Alice Johnson (“Kohla”) and Josephine Sillars as they present their research into intersectionality within Spotify algorithms, to examine how we can nurture a music scene with artist wellbeing, inclusion and equity at its heart. The session will include a case study of their Popgirlz vs Scotify campaign as well as drawing on research from Utrecht University and Universitat Pompeu Fabra into audience listening patterns, and how we can cultivate a healthier approach to digital culture.
