Resonate Artist of the Week: Pizza Crunch (Premiere)

Glasgow’s fast rising indie-rockers Pizza Crunch take this week’s Artist of The Week slot with their upcoming single ‘Fried Intellectuals’ now premiering over on our YouTube channel.

Hailing from different ends of Scotland, Pizza Crunch thrust themselves into Glasgow’s gloriously vivacious punk scene with a string of releases in 2020 which gained them support from the likes of BBC Introducing, BBC 6Music, Amazing Radio and others. Now, they triumphantly return making their debut on Disobedient Records.

The quartet project an unruly '80s post-punk strut with glimpses of noughties nonchalance in new track ‘Fried Intellectuals’. Infectious guitar riffs and a relentless rhythm section accentuate lyricism, which moves between the obnoxiously wry and the potently gloomy. The blend of influences result in compelling verses culminating in melodic and expressive hooks. Frontman Ewan Hearn’s boasts an impressive vocal performance, full of energy, genuine passion and a sprinkling of satire.

Fried Intellectuals’ is set for release on Glasgow label Disobedient Records who’s growing roster impresses with the likes of Pizza Crunch joined by Book Klub, GhostBaby, PERMO and others.

Commenting on the track, guitarist and vocalist Hearns said: "The song was written in-between lockdowns, as last summer was ending. By that time, Nathan and I had become quite good at writing songs virtually. He sent me the music that had this big riff at the start, and the lyrics came out quite naturally. I wanted to write about hanging around with seemingly more intelligent people than previously, only to quickly realise that these more intelligent beings are just roasters as everyone else is.”
