Welcome Scunnurt; for anyone unfamiliar with your music, describe it in a sentence
Intense lyrics layered ver hypnotic rhythms
We are obsessed with your your brand new EP ‘Orange Peel’ which out now on the famous Electric Honey Records. Tell us about the recording process
We record three of the 4 songs on the EP kind of DIY with our friend Sam Cameron in a local rehearsal studio when brought a load of mics and and mixed everything up and recorded all the instruments those three songs live in one day. We wanted the songs to have a raw live energy and feel to them because how we’d written them to be played. We then recorded the dubs and the vocals on top of that. We wanted the vocals to mix well with the live instruments and we felt the best way to achieve that was to record them separately so nothing was lost. For the other track on our EP we were lucky enough to record it at la chunky studios in Glasgow thanks to the lovely team over at electric honey. It was an exciting contrast recording that song in a professional studio vs the DIY approach to the other songs even while we kept the live recording element of it so the energy would feel consistent across the EP.
The 4-track EP explores the challenges that modern day youth face like vanity, anxiety & corruption. Why do you think these are important messages to convey through your music?
I think these are issues that directly affect us and a lot of people our age there is an element of getting something of our own chest and the catharsis that comes with as well as writing something that someone in a completely different set circumstances to our own can still connect with and relate to.
You all hail from Paisley - City of Culture. How does the Paisley music scene compare to others across Scotland? What’s your favourite home time venue?
The paisley music scene is quite small which means we all know each other but even in the small scene there is a really amazing diversity of music it’s really inspiring to have different perspectives and tastes so close to you and I think it really pushes you to try and be the best Version of yourself. Our home away from home is the bungalow in paisley we’ve played there along side some of the best musicians we know and the staff there are like family
