Q&A - BRSR

'BRSR are a four piece Alt/Post-Metal outfit from Glasgow. Formed from the remains of three local groups (THE DUNTS, SWAY, ANIMALS TO CREATORS), BRSR aim to push the sonic boundaries of alternative music and relay powerful emotion through intriguing lyricism, crushing rhythms and stunning melodies.

The group’s influences are wide and varied, which has led them to create something utterly unique. Reverberations of artists as such as Deftones, Hum and Slowdive can be heard throughout BRSR’s distinct sound, without ever sounding like an imitation. A thundering rhythm section and explosive guitars provide the back drop for frontman David Roberts soaring vocals, making for what is an extremely potent combination.

Your first single is awesome, tell us the writing process behind it!

Div had the opening riff for what seemed like forever before we actually wrote a song around it. A week before our debut gig it, luckily, came together very quickly. The lyrics focused on battling depression through medication and the negative effects caused by it. It’s a fairly hard hitting topic for a first single but probably best to start as we mean to go on.

If you could collaborate with any musician on future music, who would it be?

Specks - Meshuggah

Div - Josh Homme

Kyle - Chino Moreno

Matt - Neil Young

It’s so cool that you will be playing with REWS in November! Can we expect any BRSR gigs soon?

The show with REWS is our next one but there’s nothing else between now and then. There’s a good few gigs in the pipeline just now that we are very excited to talk about but unfortunately for now we’ll have to stay quiet.

If you could only take three albums to a desert island, what would they be?

Div -

Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss

Slowdive - Slowdive

Deftones - White Pony

We love to see new bands coming from Glasgow, how did you guys form your band?

Div had been talking to Matt about forming his own band after their old group SWAY broke up all throughout lockdown before eventually approaching Kieran and our original drummer Mark last year. Matt joined properly just before the first gig at King Tuts. Kyle, formerly of The Dunts, joined a few months ago and since then we’ve just been working on getting everything tight and well drilled ahead of what’s proving to be a busy 2024.

Can we expect some new tunes from BRSR soon?

We've actually got a new single coming out hopefully in November and a full EP out in the New Year! We're also in the middle of finishing up a music video for our debut single Blue and Green, who we filmed with our old friend Daniel Blake which should be out very very soon!
