Resonate Artist Of The Week: Katie Mackie

This week’s artist of the week champion is Aberdeenshire’s Katie Mackie. They don’t come much fresher with her newest single ‘Nothing Without You’ dropping today.

The self-confessed ‘budget Maggie Rogers’ is far from budget in this soothing romantic dreamy track. A delightful listen with a real poignant lyrical approach, with words which exude integrity and meaning. Katie’s distinct etherial vocals are accomplished and powerful not too dissimilar to the likes of Kacey Musgraves or Holly Humberstone - her tone is effortless & comforting.

Collectively ‘Nothing Without You’ is a refreshing take on a soft pop song, understated funky basslines are married with layered backing vocals build throughout giving a choral conclusion. It’s a perfect winding down track and a superb follow up to 2021’s '‘Terricot Town’ which evoked a similar alleviating energy. We are massive fans of this latest installement and can’t wait to see & hear what’s next for this exciting artist.

Resonate Artist Of The Week: Theo Bleak

Picture this… songwriting capabilities that would challenge the likes of Arlo Parks and First Aid Kit, a voice so pure and irreproachable it will tickle your tear ducts. Those are just some of the talents young Theo Bleak is blessed with.

2021 saw the launch of the Dundonian’s career with a string of single releases including ‘Feels Like Rain’ and ‘Paper’. Her latest instalment in ‘You’re Not Even Really Here’ is a vividly expressive track, exploring the woes of relationships.

“Bury me, in your clothes i’m in paradise

Bury me, with my phone i’m in paradise

You’ve not even really here

You’re exactly what i’ve always feared”

There’s a smokey undercurrent in ‘You’re Not Even Really Here’ , coupled with hypnotic instrumentation - it. makes for absolutely blissful listening.

Undoubtedly a talent we’ll be seeing and hearing more of in 2022, Theo’s small but impressive catalogue has already brought so many achievements; landing major editorial streaming playlists, a debut solo headline tour oh and the small matter of supporting fellow Mañama management artist Joesef in 2021. What’s next in store for Theo Bleak? Surely greatness.
