Q&A - 77

New Yorker by birth, Zimbabwean native 77 (pronounced seven seven) has a unique story to tell. Having spent the last few years songwriter, working with a variety of artists, he is now ready to be introduced as a performing artist to look out for. Though this is his first official release, he's played shows supporting the likes of Jorja Smith, Tion Wayne, and Che Lingo.

'TIME' comes out under Icon Music as their first release of 2023. With this being 77's first collaboration of the year. 'Time" is a rap influenced record with silky- soft R&B vocals exploring a more melodic approach. This week we caucht up with 77 to check in on the new collaboration. Read & listen below:

1.     Can you tell us about your collaboration with Icon Music and how it came about?

This collaboration with Icon Music was very organic. Being that I have been friend and collaborator with Sami Omar for over a decade. Sami is the founder and executive over at Icon Music.

This song “Time” was originally written and recorded as a demo for another artist but we just couldn’t stop developing the song. Next thing it’s being sent off to get mastered and here we are.

2.     What do you think about the importance of collaborating with production houses like Icon music and what does is bring to you as an artist?

I believe collaboration is an essential component of any artistic creation, especially music. Production houses like Icon Music in Glasgow provide much needed all round expertise to an upcoming musicians experience in making music. From access to high quality equipment and technical knowledge to standard industry practices and contacts. Much needed access to the industry and how to navigate it all while being able to bring musical ideas to life in Scotland budding “Urban” music scene.

3.     Do you have any more upcoming projects with icon music

Nothing with release date yet at the moment but we do have another single in the making, looking at a release in spring 2023.

4.     Is R’n’B the only genre you work with?

R’n’B is not the only genre l work with. First of all I am a fan of many many genres including Soul, Funk, Blues, Hip-Hop, Pop and R’n’B.

Also being a songwriter, I pride myself on being adaptable enough to work within most other genres.

5.     What are your other plans and goals for 2023?

2023 is a year with many plan and plays in motion for me. I have a handful of singles to release along with videos to premiere.

I’ve also started acting so lookout out for a few cameos here and there but I’ll mostly be writing and recording new music all year
