Q&A - Vansleep

This week we caught up with Aberdeens’ Vansleep following the release of their brand new single Well You Disappoint Me, Boy’. A track which is dripping in trepidation and commanding with its’ palpable energy, we' adore this new instalment from Vansleep and think you will to.

Your new single ‘Well You Disappoint Me, Boy’ drops today, tell us about the inspiration behind the track

The main inspiration came from that post lockdown angsty feeling that I think a lot of us felt in the overspill of all the nonsense we had to endure throughout covid lockdowns. Quite a few tunes from around that period were written with the same sort of mentality, of just having something to say and and channelling it into a scratchy demo.

When it comes to the creative process of writing and recording music, what are all your roles?

Usually these days, I(Kyle) will write and semi-produce a demo that is listenable for the rest of the band to hear, then if we are all liking it, we take it into a room together and jam it out from there. Then a lot of the time things get added in that were not there originally, and some things are subsequently removed, as is usually the way when things are taking on a life of their own in a practice room.

You originally hail from Aberdeen, how would you describe the live music scene in the North East?
The scene in Aberdeen is great. Lots of talented people. Doesn’t get enough credit.

What does the rest of 2023 have in store for Vansleep?

We are just looking forward to getting some new music released into the world and playing some more shows. Hopefully get a few cheeky festival slots in but nothing in stone as of yet.

What is your go-to post gig scran?

Leftover Wetherspoons scran.
